Thomas Kong at Kim's Corner Food

Thomas Kong at Kim's Corner Food
Thursday, October 1, 2015 to Saturday, October 1, 2016

Thomas Kong is an artist working in collage, primarily using repurposed advertising materials and product packaging from his convenience store, Kim's Corner Food, located in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Kong's studio work and artistic practice have developed entirely in public. Beginning five years ago, Thomas started creating collages, initially with the intention to decorate his store. His interest sparked, and in the ensuing years, using his store as a working studio, Thomas has created thousands of collages. Kim's Corner Foods is open 12 hours a day, every day. Thomas is there the entire time, working on his art while running the store. This is the city as studio in a very straightforward mode -- an artist working entirely in public, literally half of every day.

Kim's Corner Food features an evolving installation of Kong's work, and is open to customers and visitors 7 days a week from 8AM - 8PM at 1371 W. Estes Ave, Chicago, IL 60626. For more info, please visit thomaskong.biz
